Jill Nickens
Akathisia Research, Clinical, and Forensic Consultant
Focused on recognition and analysis of akathisia, including drug-induced and non–medication-related presentations, in complex clinical and forensic contexts.

“Akathisia is a kind of misery rarely experienced. People will hurl themselves off buildings. The fact that most doctors have never heard of it is mind-boggling to me.”
— Dr. Drew Pinsky, The Dr. Drew Podcast (featuring Jill Nickens)

- Diagnostic differentiation guidance
- Background briefings for legal teams

Services include:
- Educational presentations and materials
- Curated peer-reviewed literature relevant to case context
- Clinician-focused background briefings
- Research synthesis and summary materials
- Collaboration on development of educational materials for clinicians
Research Collaboration
Collaboration opportunities are available with researchers and institutions interested in advancing understanding of akathisia, identifying risk factors and susceptibility, exploring potential treatments, and improving clinical outcomes.
Jill Nickens maintains a large patient-reported akathisia registry, providing insight into symptom patterns, comorbidities, and clinical trajectories that may inform research questions and study design.
Areas of potential collaboration include:
- Identification of clinically relevant research questions based on patient-reported data
- Assessment of the prevalence of comorbid conditions such as parkinsonism, ADHD, and autonomic dysfunction
- Analysis of patient-reported symptom data to better define akathisia
- Characterization of symptom presentation, clinical findings, and diagnostic challenges
- Bridging clinical observations with patient-reported experience
